Our Story
Built From Loss. Built From Love.
Mimi May Foundation was born from personal experience — from moments that change you, and stay with you. After going through life events that brought both loss and clarity, one truth became impossible to ignore: safety, confidence, and preparedness are not guaranteed — especially for those who have had to face the world alone.
Too many women and girls live with fear.
Too many are unprepared for what life demands of them.
And too many stories end the way they should never end.
This foundation exists to change that.
We believe that safety is not just physical. It is financial. It is emotional. It is knowing your worth, understanding your rights, and having the tools to build a life on your own terms. Every workshop, every programme, and every initiative we create is built with one purpose: To help women and girls feel safer, stronger, and no longer like easy targets.
Behind this foundation is a name — and a story of loyalty that changed everything.
Mimi is a rescue dog. She came into our founder's life at its hardest point, when loss felt total and the way forward was impossible to see. She did not ask questions. She did not offer advice. She simply stayed — close, calm, and completely present — on every difficult night and every uncertain morning. That kind of unconditional presence is rare. And it saved a life. Mimi became a daily reminder that rebuilding is possible. That showing up even when it is hard — matters. That you do not have to have all the answers to make someone feel less alone. She represents everything this foundation stands for: resilience, loyalty, and the power of simply being there for someone who needs it.
Her name will live in this foundation for as long as it stands.
MIMI
OUR FOUNDER
Mimi May Foundation was founded by Mal — a woman whose life has been shaped by loss, resilience, and a long-held belief that things can be different for the women and girls who come after her. With over 34 years of experience working with people across Europe and the United Kingdom, Mal has built her entire career around human connection — supporting individuals through difficult transitions, understanding what people truly need, and helping them find direction when everything feels uncertain. But behind that professional life, Mal was carrying her own battles. She experienced domestic abuse — and received no support. She navigated entirely new countries and systems alone, without anyone to guide her or advocate for her. She lived without the kind of unconditional support that many take for granted, and she carried that absence quietly for many years, learning everything the hard way. She fought depression for over twelve years. She experienced grief that does not leave — losing people she loved deeply. And at a point when everything seemed to fall away at once, she found herself starting again from nothing. It took over ten years to rebuild. But she did. And throughout that journey, one dream never left her: to give other women and girls what she never had.
Practical knowledge. Real guidance. Someone in their corner.
A foundation that does not just raise awareness — but actually prepares them for life. That dream became Mimi May Foundation. At 54, with a lifetime of experience and a passion that has never dimmed, Mal is building something she believes in with her whole heart. Not because it is easy. But because she knows — better than most — exactly why it matters.
"I never had support. I never had someone in my corner. I want to be that person — for every woman and girl who needs it."
